Ryan Mason could be set for a surprise return to the touchline, five months on from his Hawthorns dismissal, with the former West Brom boss linked to Sampdoria.
La Repubblica reports that the Serie B side are set to make a move for the ex-Tottenham midfielder, who is considered a front runner. Sampdoria finished 13th in the second tier.
Mason took his first managerial job at Albion last summer, lifting them to the top after a bright start before results tailed off. He lasted 27 games as the Baggies slipped into the bottom half.
A poor away run proved decisive and he was dismissed following a last-gasp defeat at Leicester. Since leaving, he has been loosely linked with the vacancy at Watford.
The report also says CEO Jesper Fredburg is driving the pursuit, linked to his time at Anderlecht, a club Mason had previously been connected with during his Tottenham days. It is further claimed the club have been influenced by Cesena appointing former England international Ashley Cole.
