Santos have granted goalkeeper Gabriel Brazão leave following the death of his father. He is expected to return to training on Thursday 23. Santos host Coritiba on Wednesday 22 at 19:30 at Vila Belmiro in the first leg of the Copa do Brasil fifth phase.
According to Diario Do Peixe, coach Cuca is likely to select Diógenes for the tie while Brazão is away.
Santos renewed Diógenes’s contract nearly a month ago until the end of 2028, extending a deal that had been due to expire this year. Born in São Paulo, he is 25 and stands 1.90 metres tall. He has four senior outings.
He made his debut as a starter in October 2024, a 2-0 win over Ituano at the Novelli Júnior in Itu in Série B, when Brazão was suspended.
Last year he replaced Brazão after a head clash, playing 22 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Atlético-MG at the Arena MRV in September in the Brasileirão. He also featured in 2025 friendlies against Coritiba and Red Bull Leipzig.
Behind him, Rodrigo Falcão is available but has aged out of the academy. Prospect João Pedro, a regular in youth national team call-ups in recent years, is not yet ready for the senior role. The decision is expected to be taken by Cuca in conjunction with goalkeeper coaches Rogério Maia and Denis Gago.
