Santos loanee Alexis Duarte suffered an ACL injury on his Libertad debut in the Paraguayan league.

The centre-back started and was withdrawn after 31 minutes of the second half in a 7-0 win over San Lorenzo at Estadio Gunther Vogel on Monday.

It was the setback he most feared, hard to accept and marked by anger and frustration. He vowed to move forward with support from faith and family and thanked supporters.

Unveiled on Friday 27, the one-year loan sees Santos pay half his wages. He will complete rehabilitation with the Paraguayan club under law, and if he is still not recovered when the term ends, the loan will be renewed.

Duarte was not a first choice under Juan Pablo Vojvoda, and errors in the opening defeat to Chapecoense in the Brasileiro led Santos to seek a move. He has played only once this year, against Chapecoense.

He joined Santos last year from Spartak Moscow for four million dollars, signing through 2029, and has six appearances. The 25-year-old is a Paraguay international, making his debut for the Albirroja in November.
