São Paulo court backs Corinthians fans’ case against Andrés Sanchez

The São Paulo Court has approved the judicial protest filed by a group of Corinthians members against former president Andrés Sanchez, who led the club in two terms (2007–2011 and 2018–2020). The action was filed on November 24 by the "Save Corinthians" Collective. The information was initially published by UOL Esporte and confirmed by Central do Timão.

The judicial protest filed by the Corinthians members aims to alert the market and third parties about potential legal risks involving the assets of the former president, who was recently charged by the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MP-SP) for embezzlement, money laundering, and forgery of tax documents, due to the irregular use of the club's corporate card during his second term.

Central do Timão accessed the order from Judge Adriana Genin Flore Basso, who ordered the notification of Andrés Sanchez and the presentation of an updated address proof of the executive, after discrepancies were identified in the data on file.

The protest filed by the collective highlights that this type of voluntary jurisdiction procedure aims solely to inform potential creditors about circumstances that may impact the assets of the defendant, serving as a public warning. In practice, the measure publicizes the risks involving the former president's assets. In the document, the members state they filed the request based on the complaint filed by the MP-SP.

Andrés Sanchez admitted to part of the expenses after the club's corporate card statements from his management leaked on social media. The Public Prosecutor's Office investigated the case and concluded that there were transactions exceeding those publicly acknowledged by the former president. Therefore, the agency requested that Sanchez reimburse Corinthians R$ 480,000, plus 75% of that amount as moral damages.

In a statement sent to the press this Friday (5), the collective of members stated that only the publication of the protest is pending for potential parties interested in conducting business involving the former president's assets to be warned that “these assets may be liable for reimbursement resulting from the club's resource diversion, as well as for reckless management in the exercise of the role“.

Judicial protests against other former presidents and directors

Last Wednesday (3), the same group of members filed a similar protest against Augusto Melo, who was removed from office after becoming a defendant in the case involving former sponsor VaideBet. An equivalent request is expected to be filed regarding former president Duilio Monteiro Alves (2021–2023), also investigated by the MP-SP for possible irregularities in the use of Corinthians' resources.

The collective also informed that in the coming weeks, new legal measures will be taken to hold accountable as many current and former directors as possible who, through action or omission in their roles, contributed to the club's current situation.
