Lazio defender Samuel Gigot could soon earn his first call-up in the 2025/26 season, after spending nine months on the sidelines.
The 32-year-old joined the Biancocelesti in the summer of 2024, arriving as a replacement for Nicolo Casale. He initially signed on loan from Marseille for €500,000, but the club had an obligation to buy him last summer for a similar figure, in addition to bonuses worth €3.5 million, thus raising the total to €4.5 million.
Although he wasn’t a regular starter under Marco Baroni, the Frenchman was important for squad rotation, often making appearances in the Europa League. However, Lazio have missed his services this season due to an ankle injury that forced him to go under the knife in September.
But according to Il Corriere dello Sport, Gigot could make himself available for Maurizio Sarri, as he nears full recovery.
While it remains unclear if he’ll be fit enough to take part in Lazio’s next fixture against Parma, the Roman newspaper expects him to join the fold in the coming weeks.
This will be a boost for Sarri, who will have an additional centre-back to rely on, especially with Mario Gila struggling with some physical discomfort, and Patric settling in the deep-lying playmaker role in the absence of the injured Nicolo Rovella and Danilo Cataldi.
The source doesn’t expect Gigot to dwell at Formello too long, but a return to the pitch should help Lazio find buyers for the Frenchman, who still has suitors in his native country. The defender’s contract with the Aquile is valid until June 2026.
