Saúl set for April fitness handover as Flamengo return nears | OneFootball

Saúl Ñíguez has advanced in his recovery from heel surgery and will be handed to Flamengo’s fitness staff in April. His return to action is edging closer.

According to Coluna Do Fla, if this stage goes well he could be cleared to join full training by the second week of the month, making him available to Leonardo Jardim for upcoming fixtures.

The midfielder began experiencing heel pain late in the 2025 season, but chose conservative treatment to play decisive Libertadores and Brasileirão matches.

After the campaign ended he and the club’s medical department opted for surgery, which was performed in Spain, and rehabilitation started immediately.

Saúl arrived in July 2025 on a free after terminating his Atlético de Madrid (ESP) deal, and has made 24 appearances with two assists, contributing to the Brasileirão and Libertadores title wins.

Flamengo open their 2026 Libertadores campaign against Cusco (PER) on eight April, so the expectation is that he could be available from the second round.
