Connor Douglas’ first-half strike secured all three points for Leeds United Under-21s in the Whites’ Premier League 2 meeting with Norwich City Under-21s.
The victory was the second in quick succession following last week’s International Cup triumph over Sporting CP B, leaving boss Scott Gardner very proud of his players after the full-time whistle.
“I thought the first half was very similar to the last round of games where we were the most dominant side with the ball and then the second half was the opposite.
“We had to grind it out and we showed a different aspect of our game. I thought defensively we were solid, barring the one opportunity that Darryl [Ombang] makes that fantastic save. I thought it was pretty controlled in all honesty.
“We spoke about it in the competitive games this season. We won, lost, won, lost. So, we needed to have a game where we had back-to-back victories and we have done that with a clean sheet. So really, really pleased.”
With the visitors threatening to equalise late on, goalkeeper Ombang made a remarkable save to preserve his side’s clean sheet, ensuring Gardner was delighted with his performance in Rory Mahady’s absence.
“Credit to Rory because Rory has obviously played fantastically well. But the way Darryl works, his professionalism and the way he trains, he deserves an opportunity and he has had it tonight and he has taken it. So, yeah, well done to him!”
