Sevilla’s transfer plans have been eclipsed by reports that Sergio Ramos intends to return for one last season at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán once the club sale is certified to his investor group, Radioestadio Noche reports.

He wants that final act to become the first signing for next season, reviving a comeback that fell through in January when the current board blocked it. The defender had offered himself after ending his spell with Rayados Monterrey.

This roadmap hinges on a takeover that is said to be virtually sealed. ABC de Sevilla claims an agreement with Five Eleven Capital is in place after days of negotiation, financed by three foreign magnates, a Mexican, an Argentine and an American, linked to Ramos. The parties plan to visit a notary next week to formalise documents that would transfer ownership.

His return would mark a sharp shift from winter, when the hierarchy vetoed the move, arguing he could not be owner and player at the same time. They also maintained the investor situation made a deal impossible, even if he was willing to play for free.

If the ownership changes and Ramos fronts the new project, there would be no barrier to him anchoring Sevilla’s defence for a third spell. After his final season, his plan would be to step into the boardroom as club president.
