A Daniel Maldini brace shocked Parma in the first half, but the Ducali came back from behind after the break, securing a 3-2 win and Serie A survival.
While La Dea were sure of third place and Champions League qualification, questions remained over whether Gian Piero Gasperini would stay for next season. Berat Djimsiti returned from suspension, with Sead Kolasinac, Juan Cuadrado, Giorgio Scalvini and Gianluca Scamacca injured. Parma were still not sure of Serie A safety going into the final 90 minutes, with Lautaro Valenti returning from his ban, but Valentin Mihaila, Matteo Cancellieri, Gabriel Charpentier, Mateusz Kowalski and Yordan Osorio injured.
Parma defender Botond Balogh had the first chance in the game, but sent a headed attempt over the crossbar after a well-taken free-kick.
Marco Carnesecchi produced a couple of crucial saves, especially one from a diving Ange-Yoan Bonny header, after which he also prevented Mateo Pellegrino from getting on the ball on the rebound.
Zion Suzuki was just as brilliant on the counter-attack, denying Italy international Mateo Retegui, but Atalanta broke the deadlock a few minutes later with Daniel Maldini.
The 23-year-old came sliding to meet a Raoul Bellanova cross from the right from 12 yards. Less than a minute later, Maldini scored the second from just inside the area, making the most of a wise Retegui assist.

Bonny had another chance before the break, but sent his shot over the crossbar.
Christian Chivu’s attacking substitutions during the break produced an immediate effect as one of the substitutes, Antoine Hainaut, found the net from a Pellegrino assist with a powerful shot into the near top corner.
Ibrahim Sulemana had a massive opportunity to re-establish Atalanta’s double lead, but a poor attempt from a promising position did not match his stunning dribble inside the box.
The other Parma substitute, Jacob Ondrejka, levelled the score with a curler at the far post from inside the box as he sprinted from the left to get on Bonny’s through ball.
Ondrejka had a massive chance to kill off the game on a counterattack but was denied by Carnesecchi in one-on-one. The Swedish midfielder did eventually win the match for Parma as the Ducali won the ball high up the pitch. Bernabé provided the assist with a through ball for the Swedish midfielder, who found the net even if an Atalanta defender deflected his shot.
Parma finished the season in 16th place with 36 points, while Atalanta had already secured a third-place finish.
