Juventus have been crowned Serie A Femminile champions after claiming their sixth with a 2-0 win over AC Milan on Friday. Elsewhere, Inter sealed Women’s Champions League qualification for the first time in their history after they swept past Roma.
Here, we will round up all the drama from the latest round of Serie A Femminile fixtures, including how Juventus claimed their latest champions title.
Juventus looked set to experience frustration in the first period until the referee pointed to the spot on the stroke of half-time. After winning the penalty, Cristiana Girelli stepped up to fire the ball in the opposite direction of the goalkeeper’s dive.
Girelli then grabbed her and Juventus’ second within two minutes of the restart. The striker neatly worked the space before she saw her shot deflect over Noemi Fedele and into the net. Girelli’s brace proved enough to clinch three title-winning points. The final whistle sparked scenes of jubilation among the Juventus staff and players, as they celebrated their first Scudetto triumph since 2022, claiming the title of champions for the sixth time.
Inter secured Champions League qualification with a commanding victory over Roma on Saturday. Elisa Polli headed in from close range to give Inter a sixth-minute lead. The hosts had to wait until the 72nd minute to grab their second of the game. Roma’s Sanne Troelsgaard inadvertently diverted the ball into her own net, leaving the visitors with a mountain to climb.
The visitors’ fading hopes of rescuing a point were quashed by a piece of brilliant ingenuity from Elisa Bartoli. Olivia Schough’s attempt shot bounced into the ground and into the path of Bartoli, who managed to hook the ball beyond the outstretched Camelia Ceasar. The defeat compounded a disappointing weekend for third-placed Roma as their two-year reign as champions came to an end.
Napoli remain a point above the relegation spot after they fell to a narrow defeat in Friday’s away clash with Lazio. Martina Piemonte required just two minutes to give the hosts the lead, driving a low strike past Doris Bačić. Lazio went on to double their advantage through Eleonora Goldoni, who scored for the second time in three games.
Trailing by two goals at the break, Napoli were given a boost when they halved the deficit inside the opening five minutes of the second period. Virginia Di Giammarino curled a first time shot into the top corner to give her team hopes of salvaging a point. However, Lazio ultimately saw out the remainder of the contest to clinch a third consecutive victory.
Lana Clelland pounced on a loose Como pass to fire Sassuolo into a second-minute lead. The 32-year-old then doubled her team’s advantage just before the half hour mark. Clelland coolly rounded the goalkeeper before she slotted home her fourth goal in three matches. Valentina Gallazzi went on to add a third to seal all three points before the half-time whistle. The hosts stood firm in the second period to keep their first home league clean sheet since November.
