Inter picked up a comfortable 4-1 victory over Cremonese in Serie A on Saturday afternoon thanks to goals from Lautaro Martinez, Ange-Yoan Bonny, Federico Dimarco and Nicolo Barella, despite a late consolation goal from Federico Bonazzoli.

Cristian Chivu made wholesale changes after Inter’s 3-0 win over Slavia Prague in the Champions League on Tuesday night. Marcus Thuram was unavailable through injury and was replaced by Ange-Yoan Bonny. An entirely new midfield of Nicolo Barella, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Davide Frattesi were brought in to start against La Cremo.

Inter needed just over five minutes to get themselves ahead in San Siro: Nicolo Barella won possession midway through the Cremonese half, found Bonny, who was able to square to the onrushing Lautaro, who made no mistake with his first touch-finish from 10 yards out.

The Nerazzurri thought they had doubled their advantage in the 12th minute.

Barella’s corner went short to Dimarco, who powered in a long-range drive, which took a nick off Manuel Akanji, who was standing in an offside position. A VAR review ensured the correct call was made.

Inter stepped up the pressure midway through the first half going in search of their second: Henrikh Mkhitaryan came the closest after 20 minutes, drawing a point-blank save from Marco Silvestri.

In the end, it was Bonny who found Inter’s legal second. Alessandro Bastoni found Dimarco on the left flank. The Italy international provided a first-time cross into the area where the Frenchman was waiting to nod home for 2-0.

The Nerazzurri would go on to double their lead within the space of two minutes in the second half.

Dimarco did end up on the scoresheet after all with a similar goal to his ruled-out, first-half effort. An Inter corner fell to his feet on the edge of the area, and the Italy international found the bottom corner with a well-placed finish off his preferred left boot.

Barella made it four two minutes later: Bonny laid off to the central midfielder on his way into the area, and he was able to dispatch past Silvestri from less than 10 yards out.

Inter’s were unable, however, to protect their clean sheet for the full 90 minutes: Bonazzoli, a self-confessed Inter supporter, popped up in the right place at the right time to stab home for the visitors.
