Chelsea’s striker troubles were supposed to be over this summer, when they signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro.
However a tempting loan offer from Bayern Munich for Nicolas Jackson persuaded the Blues to let their former number one go, and they are now back to two first team options. Inevitably Delap then got an injury, and so JP has been run into the ground all season so far.

Given that, it’s no surprise to see the Blues linked with strikers all over again. The latest name to come up is Santiago Castro, the Bologna forward.
Goal.com quote Serie A sources in saying that Chelsea scouts were at a recent Bologna game to watch the 21 year old, who cost the Italian side €13.2m, 18 months ago.
He has only bagged one goal and one assist in 5 league appearances this season, but that’s not putting anyone off. He looks the real deal, with good link up play and an eye for goal. His development is being watched closely by a number of teams.
Bologna are said to want €50m for the youngster, given his “development trajectory and potential.”
That’s pretty steep, but if he gets into gear this season and bags 20 goals, we can certainly see someone paying it. Inter Milan and some Saudi clubs are reportedly interested in the Argentine youth international too.
“For now, no formal approach has been made,” Goal conclude.
“But Chelsea are expected to continue monitoring the Argentine closely in the weeks leading up to the January transfer window.”
A January deal doesn’t feel too likely, given Delap will be back and we’ve now locked in Marc Guiu as third choice forward. But in the summer, we can very much imagine some serious attempts being made.
