Sheffield United would receive a portion of the transfer fee for the Newcastle United forward
Sheffield United could be set for a financial boost from the sale of one of their former players, with William Osula being linked with a move away from Newcastle United.
The Blades recently enjoyed the clear highlight of what has been a miserable season so far with a 3-0 victory over rivals Sheffield Wednesday in the Steel City derby.
A brace from Tyrese Campbell and an injury-time strike courtesy of Tom Cannon were enough for Chris Wilder’s side to run away with the win and put some momentum back into their campaign.
United’s boss is set to make a whole number of changes to the squad in January to try and get close to last season’s performance levels, with Football League World exclusively revealing recently that loan trio Louie Barry, Tyler Bindon and Ben Godfrey could all have their deals cancelled.
As the South Yorkshire side aim to use the January window to their benefit, they could be set to receive a financial boost from one of their former players.

Sheffield United sold William Osula to Newcastle United in 2024 for £15m, with the forward coming through the Blades’ academy system before featuring 31 times for the first team.
The 22-year-old has scored five goals in 33 appearances under Eddie Howe and was the target of reported interest from Eintracht Frankfurt during the summer, with a fee in the region of £30m suggested.
That deal didn’t materialise, but German outlet Fussball Transfers have suggested that Osula will exit St. James’ Park during the January window.
Sheffield United are believed to have included a sell-on clause in the forward's deal when sold to Newcastle, which means that they would be set to benefit financially from any potential sale, although the percentage of that has not been disclosed.
Stuttgart have also been credited with an interest in the Dane, whilst Eintracht Frankfurt reportedly remain in pole position for his services, should he depart St. James' Park at the start of 2026.

Wilder has already spoken openly about how big a deal Sheffield United’s January business is and how it could make or break their future success.
Given how tightly compact the Championship is this season, any team that can put together a string of successive victories can quickly shoot up from near the bottom of the table into the top six, which the Blades’ boss will be fully aware of.
This means that any extra funds in January could be crucial in bringing in more players suited to Wilder’s style, which is why Osula’s sell-on clause being activated would be a huge deal.
