It has been a testing start to the season thus far for Sheffield Wednesday due to an array of well-documented factors.

Whilst those associated with the Owls in a playing, administrative or supporting capacity continue to worry over the club's immediate and long-term future due to Dejphon Chansiri's continuously controversial reign in the Hillsborough boardroom, those donning the blue and white stripes for Henrik Pedersen in the Championship have certainly impressed many for their conduct and overall performance levels in taxing circumstances.

The Dane replaced Danny Rohl just days before the season opener away to newly-relegated Leicester City, with the Owls kicking off the campaign with a threadbare squad due to EFL sanctions in the transfer market and when it comes to registering players after an already mass exodus of senior performers and an extremely limited pre-season.

Heading into the October international break, it's no surprise that the main focus in this part of South Yorkshire relates to off-field matters, whilst Wednesday saw a credible three-match unbeaten run ground to a halt in ruthless fashion by league leaders Coventry City on Saturday lunchtime.

Regardless, there have been plenty of young stars who have made fine first impressions on supporters and outsiders after being thrust into the first-team limelight through no fault of their own.

With the club extremely limited when it came to summer transfer activity, one of just two moves Wednesday were allowed to make was the loan capture of Harry Amass from Manchester United. And, speaking to Football League World about his performances thus far, our Owls fan pundit, Patrick McKenna, believes the Old Trafford side will be satisfied with how the agreement has panned out.

Early Sheffield Wednesday stance offered on Manchester United prospect Harry Amass

Prior to the summer, the 18-year-old defender had made seven appearances in all competitions under Ruben Amorim in the latter stages of last season, which included four starts in the Premier League.

Unsurprisingly, though, the London-born teenager was one of several future Red Devils prospects to be sent out on loan to the EFL, with the 20-time league winners subsequently agreeing to pay the entirety of Amass' wages and accomodation fees following his move across the Pennines, such is the lack of funding currently being displayed at Hillsborough by Chansiri.

Despite the youngster predominantly featuring as a left-back, all of his appearances for Wednesday so far have come in a slightly more advanced role, with Amass growing in confidence with each passing game despite marking his Owls debut with an unfortunate own-goal against Bristol City last month.

However, given the regular minutes he is receiving in a high-pressure environment, as Pedersen's side look to survive against all the odds, McKenna believes United staff will be pleased with his progress.

"I think Man Utd will be pleased with how Harry Amass' loan spell is going so far," Patrick told FLW.

"One of the key things a club does look for in a loan spell is for their player to get game-time, and he's certainly been getting plenty of that.

"He's certainly been well up to Championship standard so far at both ends of the pitch," McKenna claimed.

"He's got involved in his defensive duties and has added something to our defence. I do like the look of him going forward, he's keen to take on defenders and always looking to link up with our attacking players and get the ball in to create chances.

"So far, it's definitely been positive," he added.

"Of course, he had the very unlucky own goal five minutes into his debut, but I think he's going to keep improving throughout the season. Of course, it's a very tasking season, and, along with other players, he may tire at times or dip in form.

"I think Man Utd will be happy enough with him here for the season, certainly if the game-time continues.

"It's far too early to judge whether he'd be good enough for Man Utd in the future. But, if he continues to impress in the Championship, he isn't doing his chances any harm."

Sheffield Wednesday loan spell will only aid Harry Amass' Old Trafford prospects

Despite being 18, Amass has played with strong maturity in a period where that has to be showcased, with the vast majority of his teammates not being paid on time by Chansiri and speaking publicly about the internal struggles the club are facing.

His addition has clearly been welcomed as Wednesday looked to add some form of quality and energy into a threadbare side, although at such a young age, it is to be expected that there will be inconsistencies along the way, and that supporters cannot pin their hopes on a youngster solely carrying the team through.

However, with it being his first taste of senior football in such a challenging environment, the early signs are that Amass is coping with the tests thrown his way thus far, which is a requirement needed to succeed in a lengthy spell in the first-team at Old Trafford, which many have tipped the England youth international for.
