According to Sky Germany's Florian Plettenberg, RB Leipzig have secured the signing of Borussia Mönchengladbach captain Rocco Reitz in a deal that both clubs believe represents a balanced outcome in a shifting transfer market.
The 23-year-old midfielder will move to Leipzig in the summer for a guaranteed €20 million fee, with a further €3 million tied to performance-related bonuses. Plettenberg says, Reitz has already signed a contract keeping him at the Red Bull Arena until 2031.
While Reitz’s contract reportedly included a €25 million release clause, sources suggest both clubs considered that figure out of step with the current market. Instead, a negotiated package was agreed that allows Gladbach to receive a substantial fee while giving Leipzig flexibility in squad planning.
The transfer is also significant from a sporting perspective. Leipzig have been searching for a dynamic central midfielder capable of combining defensive work rate with progressive passing, and sporting director Marcel Schäfer has long identified Reitz as a priority target.
Reitz emerged as one of the Bundesliga’s most promising midfielders over the past two seasons, developing into a leadership figure at Borussia-Park despite his relatively young age. His energy, tactical intelligence and pressing ability made him a natural fit for Leipzig’s high-intensity playing style.
The deal is now expected to be officially confirmed by the clubs within the next 24 hours, bringing one of the more unexpected transfer stories of the year to a close.
