Liverpool have been handed a number of injury boosts with Mohamed Salah available for the weekend and Alexander Isak nearing his return.

Salah missed Liverpool’s defeat against Brighton in their last match before the international break. Due to a muscle injury, the forward did not join up with Egypt over the past fortnight. However, Salah should be available for Saturday’s FA Cup quarter-final against Manchester City.

“He will train with the team again tomorrow,” Arne Slot told Liverpoolfc.com. “And if everything works well then he’s available to be with us at City.

“He just does so much for his body for such a long time that he recovers so fast.”

The Reds could also soon be boosted by the return of English record-signing Isak. The Swedish striker has been sidelined for over three months after suffering a broken ankle in December.

Slot revealed: “He’s going to train with the group again for the first time tomorrow. So Alex is, in that sense, in a good place.

“Of course it’s only his first session, after three or four months, with the team but it’s good to have him back because we all know who we signed and we’ve signed an incredible striker.”

The Dutch coach also confirmed the availability of Federico Chiesa for the weekend, following his withdrawal from the Italy national team.

However, he is unsure on Jeremie Frimpong, who picked up a knock with the Netherlands. “The national team doctor of the Netherlands tells us that it was precautionary that they took him out,” Slot continued. “But he will have a scan later today to see.”

There was also bad news on Alisson, who remains sidelined. The goalkeeper missed Liverpool’s last fixture before the international break and did not join up with Brazil.

Slot confirmed: “Alisson will be out for a bit longer.”
