UEFA confirmed on Sunday that the Finalissima between Spain and Argentina, winners respectively of Euro 2024 and Copa America 2024, scheduled for 27 March in Doha, has been cancelled because of the conflict in the Middle East.
The governing body said it and the organisers regretted that circumstances and scheduling had deprived both teams of the chance to play for the trophy in Qatar.
An initial plan to switch the match to the Santiago Bernabéu, with an equal split of supporters, was turned down by Argentina.
A two-legged alternative, with the first leg in Madrid on 27 March and a return during an international window before Euro and Copa America 2028, was also rejected.
Argentina indicated it was available only on 31 March and declined proposals to play on neutral European soil on 27 or 30 March.
It instead suggested staging the Finalissima after the World Cup, but Spain had no free dates, so that option was dismissed.
