Sparta Rotterdam open to keeping former Reading FC and Ajax midfielder at the club | OneFootball

Sparta Rotterdam, in their announcement regarding player contracts, have confirmed that talks will take place with former Ajax and Reading FC midfielder Pelle Clement regarding an extended stay at the club. While former Swansea midfielder Jonathan de Guzmán will be staying at the club as a coach next season, the rest of the list of players are being released. Clement, who spent a few seasons in England with Reading FC, is the only one who was mentioned as being in discussions around an extension to his deal.

Clement came through the academy at Ajax but only made four appearances for the senior side. In 2017 he left the Netherlands to join Reading FC, who had just reached the play-off final with Jap Stam as their head coach. With Staam and Brian Tevreden in Berkshire, the side brought in a number of Dutch players alongside Clement, like Joey van den Berg and Roy Beerens. Clement played 28 times for Reading FC during his first season at the club, but was out of favour the following year playing just once.

In the January of the 2018/2019 season he left Reading FC to return to Dutch football with PEC Zwolle. after a few seasons with PEC Zwolle and RKC Waalwijk, Clement joined his current side Sparta Rotterdam in 2023. Clement, aged 29, has played 88 times for Sparta, scoring six goals.
