Casemiro was shellshocked that Bryan Mbeumo squandered a golden opportunity to put Manchester United ahead against Newcastle United last night.

The summer signing had at least two clear-cut chances to find the back of the net at St. James’ Park, but was far from his clinical best when up against the Magpies.

How Casemiro reacted to Mbeumo miss

After one failed attempt, Manchester World journalist Rich Fay spotted how Casemiro reacted, revealing on X/Twitter: “Bryan Mbeumo blazes over a loose ball from close range. Casemiro drops to his knees in disbelief that United didn’t just take the lead.”

On the brink of half-time, the Brazilian veteran scored what would be United’s only goal of the game when heading home from a Bruno Fernandes corner. Remarkably, no player combination has produced more goals (four) than the midfield duo in the current Premier League campaign.

Casemiro seeing out the game may have prevented the late defeat

Casemiro played only an hour of the contest before being replaced by Manuel Ugarte, which was a controversial change from Michael Carrick, due to how Ugarte has fared in recent months.

In fact, reports this week have suggested United will look to part ways with the 24-year-old when the window opens amid growing interest from clubs in Italy.

It would see Ugarte’s Old Trafford tenure come to an end after only two years; they signed him from Paris Saint-Germain in a £51 million deal back in August 2024.

In the same window, Casemiro will be leaving as a free agent as soon as his contract expires, so it goes without saying that midfield reinforcements will take the utmost priority for INEOS over the summer.
