In a recent report, Sunderland Echo claimed that Sunderland are in the mix to sign Saint-Etienne striker Lucas Stassin this summer. It has been mentioned that the Black Cats are facing competition from FC Porto in the race to land the Belgian talent this off-season.
Stassin enjoyed a decent run of form at the French club in the previous campaign when he produced a string of productive displays for them in the final third. The 21-year-old found the back of the net on 11 occasions and picked up nine assists in 35 matches for Saint-Etienne last season in multiple competitions.
The Belgian attacker is currently one of the best young forwards in French football. Therefore, it is no wonder that the Black Cats are in the running to acquire Stassin’s this summer.
His current contract at Saint-Etienne will expire in the summer of 2028, which could make it difficult for Sunderland to land him on the cheap later this year.

Stassin is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in and around the opponent’s penalty area and is a good dribbler with the ball at his feet.
The Belgian sensation can even contribute by scoring and creating his fair share of goals on the offensive end of the field. However, there are some question marks over whether he can cope with the physical side and high intensity of the Premier League if the Black Cats manage to get a deal over the line for him later this year.
Stassin would enhance the quality of Sunderland boss Regis Le Bris’ attack in the long run. He is already capable of challenging for a regular starting spot at the Stadium of Light next season.
At 21, the future looks quite bright for Stassin as long as he continues to improve with each year. Hence, Sunderland would be wise to go for a striker of his potential in this transfer period. However, Le Bris has to be patient with his development before he can get the best out of the talented forward at the Wearside club.
