Sunderland have confirmed Timothée Pembélé has left for Ligue 1 club Le Havre on a permanent transfer, as their summer business gathers pace.

The club said in a statement that the 23-year-old made eight appearances after joining in September 2023. He initially arrived from PSG.

The right-back spent two loan spells at Le Havre across the past two seasons, featuring 35 times in Ligue 1.

With regular minutes on Wearside unlikely, he now departs having battled early injury and fitness issues.

The fee is undisclosed, and Sunderland are unlikely to have recovered much, if any, of their original outlay. The move offers Pembélé a chance to revive his career and eases pressure on the wage bill.
