Sunderland have confirmed Timothée Pembélé has joined Ligue 1 side Le Havre on a permanent deal. The club said in a statement that the 23-year-old made eight appearances in red and white.

Pembélé had two loan spells with Le Havre over the last two seasons, and with regular minutes on Wearside unlikely he has now completed a permanent switch. It ends his three-year association with Sunderland, having arrived from PSG on deadline day in summer 2023.

He initially struggled with injury and fitness, then returned to Le Havre on loan, featuring 35 times in Ligue 1 across those stints.

No fee has been disclosed, and Sunderland are unlikely to have recouped much, if any, of the sum they paid to sign the right-back.

The move offers Pembélé a chance to kick-start his career and frees space on Sunderland’s wage bill.
