Sunderland’s window ended with late movement, but contract calls remain for Regis Le Bris’ squad. According to Sunderland Echo, several first-teamers near the end of their deals.
Simon Adingra joined Monaco on loan with an option to buy after arriving from Brighton in the summer. He was replaced by Ecuador international Nilson Angulo from Anderlecht. Sunderland are eighth on 36 points from 24 games and unbeaten at home.
Six players could depart at season’s end: Simon Moore, Bertrand Traore, Lutsharel Geertruida, Dennis Cirkin, Dan Neil and Harrison Jones. Geertruida is on loan from RB Leipzig.
Traore leads the squad for successful dribbles per 90, at two, and scored his first Sunderland goal in the 3-2 win over Bournemouth in late November. Sunderland blocked a deadline-day move to Liverpool for Geertruida, who has covered centre-back, right-back and defensive midfield.
Cirkin was out of favour early on but has featured far more lately. Neil joined Ipswich Town on loan in January and will not return, ending an 18-year association in June when his contract expires. Goalkeeper Moore is also in his final six months.
Four more expire in 18 months. Reinildo Mandava has been ever-present when fit at left-back since arriving from Atletico Madrid and turns 33 next season. Luke O’Nien has only 21 Premier League minutes and may seek an exit if that does not change. Ian Poveda and Abdoullah Ba run to summer 2027, and Sunderland will likely look to move them on before then.
