Manchester City’s winning streak came to an end as Sunderland held the Blues to a 0-0 draw at the Stadium of Light, leaving Pep Guardiola’s side four points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

City started the game on the front foot, with Bernardo Silva seeing a close-range effort from an Erling Haaland flick-on ruled out for offside inside the first six minutes. Haaland would later test Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs from 12 yards, but the hosts’ goalkeeper remained resolute.

The Black Cats had their own chances in the first half. Brian Brobbey outmuscled Ruben Dias but could only fire straight at Gianluigi Donnarumma, while Trai Hume saw a header drift narrowly over the bar just before half-time. The home side’s stubborn defence ensured City left the interval frustrated.

Rodri returned for City at the start of the second half, replacing Nico Gonzalez, and the Blues applied more sustained pressure. Jeremy Doku’s effort was blocked by Nordi Mukiele, and Josko Gvardiol’s glancing header clipped the post. Donnarumma also made a fine save from Eliezer Mayenda as Sunderland held firm.

Despite City dominating possession and creating late opportunities, they were unable to break down a determined Sunderland side, who remain unbeaten at home this season.

The point extends City’s unbeaten run to seven matches across all competitions but ends their run of consecutive wins, leaving them four points adrift at the halfway stage of the campaign.
