According to Sunderland Echo, Sunderland have opened talks to sign Borussia Monchengladbach goalkeeper Jonas Omlin on loan.

Robin Roefs has been first choice this season, with academy graduate Anthony Patterson providing cover. The latter’s lack of minutes has prompted questions over his short-term future.

Patterson has featured only once at senior level, in the Carabao Cup against Huddersfield Town, and has been linked with a loan move. Millwall are the latest club credited with an interest.

Head coach Regis Le Bris has said Patterson could depart this month, but only if a replacement arrives. He accepted the frustration for those not playing, and framed it as part of fair competition.

Omlin, a 32-year-old with four Switzerland caps, joined Borussia Monchengladbach from Montpellier in 2023. He is currently behind Moritz Nicolas and has not made a first-team appearance this season.
