A Boca academy graduate, Delgado has passed 50 senior appearances and is a fixture for Argentina Under-20s, with a senior call-up widely expected in the coming years.

The report also indicates rivals abroad are in the mix, with Udinese and Torino, Real Betis and Getafe among the suitors. MLS clubs Inter Miami and Atlanta United are said to want to use a Young Designated Player slot to sign him.

The report adds Boca are yet to receive an official or written offer, and the midfielder’s representatives recently toured Europe for talks in Spain and England, without the clubs being specified.

Sunderland’s recent recruitment has spanned several markets, with Swedish goalkeeper Melker Ellborg arriving from Malmo to support Robin Roefs, and winger Jocelin Ta Bi joining from Maccabi Netanya in January.
