Wanderers and the Terriers have given themselves every chance of landing a play-off spot come the end of the campaign, whereas Argyle have an uphill battle on their hands to keep pace with the top six.

Tom Cleverley's side began the season with aspirations of sealing an immediate Championship return, but have instead become equally concerned by how close to the relegation zone they are and how far they are from the play-offs.

Huddersfield were only relegated from the second tier in 2024, whereas Bolton have not tasted Championship football since 2019.

Meanwhile, Football League World takes a look at where Argyle, the Terriers and Wanderers will finish their respective League One campaigns.

Plymouth Argyle - 16th

As previously mentioned, Plymouth had started the season vying to return to the Championship after suffering relegation from the second tier just last term.

However, Opta's supercomputer has predicted that Cleverley's side will finish 16th in League One, which some supporters may see as a relief given the fact that their side could yet be dragged into a relegation dogfight.

The Pilgrims have enjoyed the services of prolific striker Lorent Tolaj, who joined from Port Vale last summer, but they have conceded far more goals than they would have liked.

Argyle's leaky defence was exposed in their recent 4-1 defeat to Lincoln City, while Reading beat the Devon Club by the same scoreline on Boxing Day.

Huddersfield Town - 6th

Huddersfield hoped that when they sacked former boss Lee Grant following January's defeat to Burton Albion and replaced him with Liam Manning, it would enhance their chances of securing a League One play-off spot.

Manning enjoyed an impressive start to life in the Terriers dugout, winning each of his first three games, including a debut 1-0 triumph over West Yorkshire rivals Bradford City.

The Accu Stadium club were knocked out of the EFL Trophy via a penalty shootout defeat to Doncaster Rovers, but their League One season is still on track, with the supercomputer predicting that they will finish 6th.

Huddersfield lost then club top scorer Leo Castledine in the winter transfer window, as he was recalled by his previous parent club, Chelsea, and sold to Championship promotion challengers Middlesbrough, leaving them reliant on striker Ryan Hardie, who joined on loan from Wrexham.

Bolton Wanderers - 4th

Bolton are currently vying to land a play-off spot for the third time in four seasons, and still have an outside chance of beating either Cardiff City or Lincoln to an automatic promotion place.

Opta's supercomputer has predicted that Wanderers will finish fourth, and the Greater Manchester club will hope to avoid a repeat of 2024, when they lost the League One play-off final to Oxford United.

Bolton have one of the third tier's best defences, with the likes of Northern Ireland international centre-back Eoin Toal among their ranks, but they have not seen consistency from strikers such as Sam Dalby.
