Germany international Sydney Lohmann has completed a deal to join Women’s Super League (WSL) side Man City from Bayern Munich.
The 25-year-old is currently away with her country for Women’s Euro 2025.
She leaves Bayern Munich after eight seasons with the Frauen-Bundesliga side. Lohmann is City’s third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Iman Beney and Jade Rose.
Sydney Lohmann has revealed that she decided to join Man City as she thought it would be good for her ‘personal growth’.
She told the club’s website: “First of all, I think always when you go somewhere else, a big step like that, it’s always good for your personal growth.
“I visited the facilities here, had the talks, and I just felt there is a lot of space to grow for the team and also for individual players and for me.
“I was watching games of City and I was quite impressed with the playing style and I thought I wanted to be part of that.”
Lohmann added that she wants to win the WSL title with Man City, and believes that goal is achievable.
That is despite the fact that City are coming off the back of a disappointing season. They finished fourth in the WSL and won’t play Champions League football in the 2025-26 season.
It will be a fresh start for City, who start life with new manager Andree Jeglertz. Their new manager will join up with the team after he finishes his role as manager of the Danish national team at Women’s Euro 2025.
Jeglertz’s Denmark lost 2-1 to Germany on Tuesday night. Lohmann was an unused substitute during the game.
Man City hae confirmed that Sydney Lohmann will wear the No. 22 shirt during the 2025-26 campaign.
The most recent player to wear the No.22 was goalkeeper Sandy Maclver.
It was also worn by Emma Kete, Claire Emslie, and Sam Mewis.
Sydney Lohmann has signed for Man City on a four-year deal.
The German midfielder brings plenty of experience at the young age of 25.
Lohmann first broke into the senior Bayern Munich team during the 2016-17 season and scored 33 goals in 174 appearances for the club.
During her time in Bavaria, Lohmann was part of four separate title-winning sides, including helping Bayern to a domestic double in 2024-25.
She is also an established international player, making 40 appearances for her country.
At Euro 2025, Lohmann came off the bench during Germany’s 2-0 victory over Poland, but was left on the bench against Denmark.
