Tamires reaches 200 games for Corinthians in Libertadores win

Corinthians secured their spot in the quarterfinals of the Conmebol Libertadores Femenina by defeating Independiente Santa Fe from Colombia 1-0 this Wednesday. The victory had a special meaning for Tamires, the left-back and team captain, who reached the historic milestone of 200 matches wearing the Brabas jersey, becoming the sixth athlete to achieve this feat at the club.

At 37 years old, Tamires started the entire match and played an active role in the victory. Near the end of the game, she almost scored a goal but was stopped by goalkeeper Velásquez. In the 37th minute of the second half, she was substituted by Juliete and received applause from her teammates and the coaching staff for her accomplishment.

The defender’s journey at Corinthians began in July 2019, when she debuted by scoring one of the goals in a 9-0 rout over São Francisco in the Brazilian Women's Championship. On that occasion, she started on the bench and only came on in the second half, beginning a story filled with achievements and leadership.

Since then, Tamires has established herself as one of the greatest icons of Corinthians women's football. She is one of the squad’s leaders and ranks among the club’s most decorated players, with 16 titles to her name, placing her just behind Vic Albuquerque, Paulinha, Gabi Zanotti, and Yasmim, who each have 17 trophies.

Also recognized for her contributions to the Brazilian National Team, Tamires boasts an impressive international résumé, with three Copa América titles and a gold medal at the Pan American Games. Her career inspires generations both on and off the field.

Off the pitch, the left-back is a symbol of resilience and representation. She was one of the pioneers to return to football after motherhood, a rare decision in the sports world at the time. At 21, she discovered she was pregnant with her son Bernardo and had to step away from the field for two years. She returned in 2011, playing for Atlético-MG, and later represented Centro Olímpico and Fortuna Hjørring of Denmark before donning the Timão jersey, where she earned the affectionate nickname “Mother of the Faithful.”

With 200 matches played, 166 as a starter, Tamires has accumulated 159 wins, 28 draws, and only 13 losses, as well as 36 goals scored. Among her main achievements with Corinthians are the Libertadores da América titles (2019, 2021, and 2023) and the six-time Brazilian championship (2020 to 2025).

The left-back will have the opportunity to increase her numbers this Saturday, the 11th, when Corinthians faces Boca Juniors from Argentina in the quarterfinals of the Libertadores Femenina. The match will take place at Estadio Deportivo Morón, with the time yet to be confirmed by Conmebol.
