Charlton Athletic and Leyton Orient are preparing for their huge League One play-off final at Wembley on Sunday.

The two London clubs have enjoyed fantastic seasons, with the Addicks performing well under Nathan Jones, whilst the O’s were more of a surprise under Richie Wellens’ guidance as they booked their place in the top six on the final day.

Charlton overcame Wycombe thanks to a Matty Godden goal over two tense legs, with Orient beating Stockport on penalties after they couldn’t be separated over 210 entertaining minutes.

Now, all attention is on Wembley for the final, and if the league fixtures are anything to go by, we could be in store for more drama.

It was Jones’ side who picked up six points in the regular season, although it doesn’t tell the whole story, as they needed a stoppage time goal to beat Orient at the Valley. Then, at Brisbane Road, the Addicks scored twice in added time to come from behind to win 2-1, sparking wild scenes in the away end.

So, whilst Charlton know they have the beating of Leyton Orient, they will expect a very tough game, and pleasingly for Jones, he has an almost fully-fit squad to choose from.

Miles Leaburn’s campaign has been disrupted by injury, with the attacker last featuring in March. Unfortunately, he will be out for the final, although Jones and the team have been coping without the talented striker for the past few months, so it’s nothing new for them.

One more recent injury worry is Luke Berry. The experienced midfielder has been integral to Jones since his arrival from Luton, playing in 42 games this season.

However, he missed the second leg win over Wycombe in the semi-final, and Charlton didn’t give much away about his condition, although they did describe the injury as ‘minor’.

It remains to be seen whether he will be back this weekend, with Alex Gilbert likely to start if Berry is absent, which would mean an unchanged XI from the side that beat the Chairboys.

Leyton Orient team news ahead of play-off final vs Charlton

Wellens has rued Orient’s bad luck on the injury front this season, with the club missing some key players at different times.

Jordan Graham is a long-term absentee due to a knee injury, and he will once again be missing for this game.

Dan Happe is another who won’t be fit to play, with the centre-back having missed the past six weeks after suffering a late problem against Wigan. That is a blow for Wellens, as Happe has been a key figure this season, producing some dominant displays.

Like Charlton, Orient have doubts over one player as well from the semi-final, as Jack Currie looked in discomfort when he was replaced in the second half against Stockport.

Understandably, they have been tight-lipped about his availability, but Orient will do all they can to get the on-loan Oxford man out on the pitch, as he has been very good this season.

Elsewhere, Tom James recovered from a dislocated shoulder to make the play-offs, which was a surprise to some, and he came on for Currie at Edgeley Park, so he will be pushing to be in the XI.
