The Elite XI: How CAF selected the Best Players from AFCON 2025
CAF revealed the official AFCON 2025 Team of the Tournament with Senegal & Morocco leading the selection after dramatic final in Rabat.
The Confederation of African Football CAF has officially announced the Team of the Tournament for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 which concluded recently in Morocco.
As expected Senegal and Morocco dominated the lineup reflecting their strong performances throughout the competition.
Senegal were crowned AFCON 2025 champions after edging hosts Morocco 1- 0 after extra time in the final played on Sunday at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
The champions placed four players in the Best XI, the same number as Morocco underlining the balance between the two finalists.
CAF confirmed on its official website that the selection was made following technical analysis conducted by the Technical Study Group.
The process relied on comprehensive evaluation model applied consistently across all matches of the tournament ensuring objective and performance based choices.
Among the standout names was Yassine Bounou who won the Best Goalkeeper award after conceding only two goals in seven matches. The Morocco international was a key figure in the hosts run to the final.
Senegal’s presence in the team was led by Sadio Mane who was crowned Player of the Tournament after delivering series of decisive performances.
He was joined by Moussa Niakhate, Pape Gueye and Idrissa Gana Gueye , all of whom played vital roles in Senegal’s successful campaign.
Morocco also left strong mark with captain Achraf Hakimi, Noussair Mazraoui and Brahim Diaz included. Diaz finished the tournament as top scorer with five goals, further justifying his place in attacking line.
Third-place finishers Nigeria were represented by three player in the Best Line-up. Calvin Bassey, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen were rewarded for their consistent displays highlighting Nigeria’s depth and attacking threat throughout AFCON 2025.
