Tottenham Hotspur are looking to win the race to sign Mateus Fernandes from West Ham
West Ham have been the focal point of a major transfer tussle following confirmation of their relegation from the Premier League.
The Hammers finished 18th in the table, losing out to Tottenham Hotspur in the battle for survival, with just two points separating the sides.
This has led to intense speculation surrounding Mateus Fernandes’ future, with the midfielder attracting a lot of interest.
The 21-year-old impressed under Nuno Espirito Santo last season, contributing three goals and four assists from 36 appearances following his move from Southampton.
Fernandes made the switch to the London Stadium in a deal worth a reported £38 million just 12 months ago, but his future could lie elsewhere, with Manchester United also showing an interest in the player.

It has been reported by Hammers insider ExWHUEmployee - as relayed by X account West Ham Central - that Spurs have offered West Ham a loan deal for Mikey Moore as part of their talks over trying to sign Fernandes.
The winger spent last season on loan at Rangers, where he contributed seven goals and three assists from 33 appearances in the Premiership.
It is unclear whether West Ham would be willing to bring in the 18-year-old, with the east Londoners understood to be in no rush to sell Fernandes.
Moore has earned a lot of plaudits as a promising young player at Spurs, but has yet to break into their first team squad.
The Premier League side are keen on signing Fernandes, with Roberto De Zerbi looking to bolster his midfield options for next season.
Spurs narrowly avoided relegation after a turbulent season with a number of different managers in the dugout, but will want to get back into contention for European qualification.
However, it is unclear whether offering Moore will boost their chances of sealing Fernandes’ signature, with the player reportedly valued at £80 million.
West Ham fans have expressed a lot of different views on the Fernandes talks with Spurs, with some suggesting that any involvement of Moore should be for a permanent deal.
However, some have claimed that bringing in the 18-year-old won’t make or break the Hammers’ season, and thus the club should stick to their asking price for the Portuguese midfielder.
West Ham have been urged to stick to their guns, and to not be persuaded by the possibility of bringing in Moore on loan.

The saga involving Fernandes is reaching a fever pitch, and it’s clear that Spurs and Man United are both in the mix for his signature.
Adding Moore into the talks is an attempt to get some leverage over their Premier League rivals, but the 18-year-old coming in on loan isn’t a compelling long-term option for West Ham.
If they could bring him on loan as a separate deal then it might be a promising move for the season ahead, but losing someone like Fernandes will require the full fee in order to adequately replace him.
So West Ham have every reason to stick to their guns and ask for the £80 million that they’re seeking for the midfielder.
