Enzo Maresca has confirmed midfielder Romeo Lavia is ready to play against Liverpool in a major boost for Chelsea.
Lavia has been plagued by injury issues since making the switch from Southampton in the summer of 2023 in a deal worth up to £58m.
The Belgian played just 30 minutes of football in his first season, but there was an improvement last season as he made 22 appearances in all competitions, with Chelsea said to still fully believe in Lavia.
Lavia made four appearances in the Club World Cup over the summer, but after playing in the round of 16 against Benfica he wasn’t seen in action again until coming on for the final 11 minutes against Brighton last weekend.
Given Andrey Santos is injured and Dario Essugo is likely out until the new year, a return to fitness for Lavia is much needed for Chelsea.

Lavia was on the bench against Benfica in midweek, although he didn’t come on, but Maresca has now confirmed he’s ready to play against Liverpool.
“Romeo is ready to play,” he said as quoted on X.com.
“With Romeo, we are trying to do exactly the same that we have done with Wes and with Reece.
“Now we are in a much better position for both of them. Unfortunately, at this moment, Wes is out, but not for any physical problem. It’s just for the concussion against Lincoln.
“The target with Romeo is that we can help him and we can bring him in the same condition as Wes and Reece, where they can play games.
“As you can see now, Reece is playing more games without problems. Hopefully, we can do the same with Romeo.”
Despite the good news about Lavia, Maresca has confirmed Chelsea will still be without seven or eight players for Saturday’s game.
