Marc Cucurella has established himself as a top 1 on 1 defender, with the proof of that coming in quotes from one of the world’s best.

Michael Olise is an incredible player, one we’d kill to have at Chelsea. Interestingly, the Bayern Munich star rates a player already with the Blues as his toughest opponent out wide over the years.

“I’ve faced a lot of top players over the years, but the toughest has to be Marc Cucurella,” France international Olise said.

“I’ve played against him a couple of times, and trust me, it’s never easy.”

Olise faced Cucurella while at Crystal Palace and at Bayern. Given the France star’s quality, this is high praise. Cucurella has improved steadily after a slow start at Chelsea to become one of the best.

Olise quotes remind Chelsea fans of how much they want defender back from injury

That quote is exactly why Chelsea fans are so concerned about their full back’s fitness right now. He came off at half time in the 2-2 draw against Leeds a week ago with a hamstring issue, and we’ve yet to get a concrete update on how severe the problem is.

We will find out more tomorrow afternoon, when Liam Rosenior takes his pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Burnley. We’re certain he won’t be fit for that game, and we’re just praying it’s no more than a game or two beyond that.

In other news…

Chelsea have lost an academy talent to Tottenham, with another starlet choosing to move away from the Cobham academy.

Yan Diomande is tearing up the Bundesliga, and Chelsea are among the teams being linked with him. If only we didn’t blow our budget on Jamie Gittens a year ago…
