The Reds went ahead through Cornelia Kapocs’ early goal but Everton soon levelled matters before chalking up a sizeable scoreline.
When speaking to the media after the match, Liverpool boss Taylor said that he had mixed emotions about the defeat, although there are many things that his side can improve on going forward.
“My feelings are strange really because I felt the first half, particularly that first 40 minutes, we were pretty good,” Taylor said. “The control we had in the game was very good.
“You can just see how quickly the game can kind of get away from you. It’s disappointing, obviously, to concede the goal when we were so dominant. I think there are a lot of things that we need to improve and we need to get better at.”
Reflecting on the defeat further, Taylor admitted that a perfect performance was not expected and that it’s about taking the positives forward.
He said “I think [we will] really focus on the positves today and there are a lot of positives. We knew that we weren’t going to be able to come in and affect things really quickly. I was actually probably more surprised in the first half at how well we did play; I probably didn’t expect us to play that well in the first half and control the game the way we did. We know this is not a short-term project, but we don’t want to receive scorelines like that.”
Taylor opted to select youngster Faye Kirby in goal after she impressed during pre-season. He shared his reasoning behind choosing the relatively inexperienced keeper.
He said “I’ve been really impressed with her in pre season, I think she’s been great. I think she’s a real top character on and off the pitch, so for me, it was an easy one.”
Liverpool are back in action this weekend when they travel to The King Power Stadium to face Leicester City.
