Fluminense’s Brazilian Cup semi-final exit to Vasco da Gama on Sunday has left Thiago Silva facing the prospect of having played his last game for the club, despite a deal that runs to June 2026.
Fluminense lost 2-1 in the first leg, then won 1-0 at the Maracana, before losing 4-3 on penalties after a 2-2 aggregate.
The 41-year-old could have made his 185th and final appearance, having hinted to team-mates after the defeat that this might be goodbye. Distance from his wife and sons, Iago and Isago, who are in Chelsea’s youth system, is weighing on him, and a return to Europe is possible.
La Repubblica reports that AC Milan are interested in bringing him back.
He still hopes to make Carlo Ancelotti’s 26 for the next World Cup. "I would be lying if I said it is not in my plans," he told France Football this month.
