Thierry Rendall Correia has suffered another hamstring injury after Valencia’s match at Real Oviedo at the Carlos Tartiere, extending a troubling pattern. The right-back’s progress at Mestalla has often been halted just as he begins to string games together.
Transfermarkt states that since joining Valencia he has dealt with various issues, from muscular problems and a sprain to calf trouble and illness, with an ACL rupture in 2024/25 the most severe. That knee injury sidelined him for 310 days and 36 matches, and in total he has spent more than 587 days out and missed more than 77 games, not including this latest setback, which equates to 33.3% of his spell.
In 2023/24 he put together a meaningful run in LaLiga, featuring regularly and contributing to Valencia’s defensive structure. Even then he suffered a muscle injury in late September 2023 and a calf problem in January 2024. Earlier setbacks included a long muscular layoff in 2021/22, a sprain in February 2022 and further minor interruptions.
If there was a season to consolidate, it was that one. The ACL rupture in October 2024 reset his trajectory. For a wide defender reliant on acceleration, repeated runs and one v one duels, such an injury erodes confidence and match rhythm as well as time.
At Valencia, Thierry has too often worn the label of a promising player. He has shown quality, but not long enough to turn promise into permanence. This new problem in Oviedo complicates his attempt to finally make that leap.
