Algeria has taken a major step toward qualifying for the next edition of the World Cup, with the final phase set to take place next year in North America.
On Thursday, the Fennecs battled hard to secure a 3-1 victory over Botswana in a Group G clash counting for the 7th matchday.
They now have 18 points, putting them 6 points clear of their closest rivals, Mozambique, who will face Uganda on Friday, September 5.
A possible draw would be enough for Algeria, who could punch their ticket to the World Cup if they win their next match against Guinea—provided Mozambique is once again held to a draw by Botswana in their matchday 8 encounter.
As a reminder, the North African side has already featured in the World Cup four times, specifically in 1982, 1986, 2010, and 2014.
