Thomas Frank insisted Xavi Simons is making progress in adapting to life at Tottenham, but called for more patience as he compared the situation with Florian Wirtz at Liverpool.

Simons has had a quiet start in a Spurs shirt, with an assist from a corner on debut against West Ham his only goal involvement in eight appearances.

The £52million signing from RB Leipzig initially started on the left wing but has been used in the No10 role in recent matches and is yet to consistently produce his best.

Wirtz, who also made the move from the Bundesliga to the Premier League in the summer, has not registered a goal or an assist in ten matches for Liverpool.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Spurs' match away at Monaco on Wednesday night in the Champions League, Frank was asked whether the struggles of Simons and Wirtz showed just how difficult it can be to adapt to new surroundings.

"I think that's a very good question and also a very good comparison with Wirtz," Frank said.

"Also a very good player, just like Xavi a very good player. Coming into a new country, a new club, new city. Just need to settle in.

"And it is part of it. We're all getting judged every game but we also need to see the little bit bigger perspective and see it over time. I always look for glimpses and bits of pieces we're working at.

"For example, Xavi I think there were some good bits. Worked with him and asked him more to be arriving in the box, which when I looked at the game back he did.

"Was there the big eye-catching moment? No. But there was good glimpses so I think it's constantly going a bit in the right direction."
