Arsenal returned to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Real Madrid, while Chelsea impressed in a 1-1 draw against Barcelona.

Manchester United players are absent from this week’s XI, after their disappointing 5-2 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg.

Elsewhere, there were impressive victories for Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid.

Women’s Champions League Team of the Week for Matchday 4

Goalkeeper

Lowiese Seynhaeve – OH Leuven

OH Leuven goalkeeper Lowiesee Seynhaeve makes our XI for the second week in a row after helping the Belgian side earn a point from their clash with AS Roma.

Last week, Seynhaev made 14 saves against Barcelona in a 3-0 defeat. Against Roma, she made 11 saves, seven of which were from inside box, to earn OH Leuven a 1-1 draw.

OH Leuven sit just inside the playoff spots after Matchday 4, and Seynhaeve is a big reason behind this.

Defenders

Emily Fox – Arsenal

United States international Emily Fox fared well against the threat of Athenea del Castillo during Arsenal’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid.

Fox made two tackles, two interceptions, two recoveries, a block and a clearance as she committed to her defensive duties admirably against the Spanish side.

She was also a threat in attack, creating two chances and playing five passes into the final third.

Wendie Renard – Lyon

Although Lyon let in three goals during a 3-3 draw with Juventus, experienced French centre-back Wendie Renard put in a strong performance.

Juventus might have scored more goals if it weren’t for Renard’s seven clearances, three clearances and two interceptions. She was also a threat in attack, with four shots, 16 passes into the final third and five touches in the opposition’s box.

She earned Lyon a late point with a 90th-minute penalty to maintain their unbeaten start to the competition.

Naomi Girma – Chelsea

United States international Naomi Girma made the starting XI over Millie Bright, who was included in our Chelsea vs Barcelona combined XI.

Girma made a brilliant last-ditch tackle to keep the scores level early on. The 25-year-old who had only featured twice before this season, also made four recoveries and five clearances.

Girma is the first of three Chelsea players to make our Champions League Team of the Week.

Sandy Baltimore – Chelsea

Chelsea left back Sandy Baltimore was arguably their best performer against Real Madrid on Thursday night.

She was solid at the back with seven recoveries, two interceptions and two tackles.

Baltimore was also a nuisance going forward and linked up well with Alyssa Thompson down the left flank.

Midfielders

Ella Peddemors – VfL Wolfsburg

Wolfsburg were in ruthless form against Manchester United, and Ella Peddemors scored a brace against the Red Devils.

She capitalised on a mistake from Safia Middleton Patel to draw Wolfsburg back level at 1-1, before poking home their second after a dangerous ball into the box.

The Dutch defensive midfielder also made five recoveries, three clearances and one interception.

Erin Cuthbert – Chelsea

Chelsea captain Erin Cuthbert led by example against Barcelona and makes our Champions League Team of the Week.

She created the most chances in the game with three, and also threaded some nice through balls to her teammates.

Cuthbert also made eight defensive contributions in a game where Chelsea were disappointed not to take the victory. Manager Sonia Bompastor was annoyed at the decision to halt play during a power outage in the first half.

Fiamma Benitez – Atletico Madrid

Completing the midfield is Fiamma Benitez who was the Player of the Match in Atletico Madrid’s 4-0 win over FC Twente.

Benitez assisted Atletico’s opening goal in the 29th minute before wrapping up their victory with the fourth goal in the 85th minute.

She also created the most chances in the game with four, and won the most duels out of any player with 11. The 21-year-old Spain star is showing herself to be a star of the future.

Forwards

Linteth Beerensteyn – VfL Wolfsburg

Lineth Beerensteyn, like Peddemors, scored a brace during Wolfsburg’s 5-2 win over Manchester United.

She scored a brilliant goal as the clock turned 45:00, when she fired in from outside the box after Julia Zigiotti Olme gave the ball away.

Beerensteyn then drove into the box and slotted home into the bottom corner to make it 4-2, effectively killing off the game.

Alessia Russo – Arsenal

Arsenal striker Alessia Russo made it four goals in four appearances for the Gunners in the Women’s Champions League, after scoring a second-half brace to inspire a 2-1 comeback win over Real Madrid.

Her looping header pulled Arsenal level after 52 minutes, before she headed in the winner for Arsenal from a corner 14 minutes later.

She is now the joint-top scorer in the competition alongside Real Madrid’s Caroline Weir and Wolfsburg’s Beerensteyn.

Klara Buhl – Bayern Munich

Klara Buhl is one of just two players to keep her place in the Champions League Best XI for Matchday 4.

Last week, Buhl provided a hat-trick of assists to help Bayern Munich in their 3-2 comeback victory against Arsenal.

Against PSG, Buhl provided the assist to help put Bayern Munich 2-1 up and she deserved more, creating six chances against the French side.
