Barcelona failed to get the three points home in La Liga once again last night as they succumbed to a 1-1 draw against Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
It was Hansi Flick’s men who opened the scoring early through Jules Kounde, but they soon conceded a rather sloppy equaliser and brought the game back to a deadlock.
56 drama-filled and controversy-riddled minutes later, the full-time whistle was blown at the same scoreline, although Barcelona did indeed have a rather clear penalty denied, once again.
Barça Universal brings you three takeaways from Getafe 1-1 Barcelona.
Barcelona headed into the game at Coliseum Alfonso Perez having not scored at the stadium since 2019 when Luis Suarez and Junior Firpo helped the team to a 2-0 win.
Last night, Hansi Flick’s side broke that curse early as a world-class pass front Pedri found Jules Kounde who made no mistake in front of the goal.
What they failed to accomplish, however, was break the curse of not winning at the stadium which has been active for precisely the same amount of time and is now likely to go on for another year.
Barcelona have now failed to beat Getafe at the Coliseum since 2019 and it is clear that it is a stadium that does not suit Barcelona’s style well. Their poor record is only down to the hosts’ style of football.
Getafe’s only goal last night, once again, was to exaggerate challenges, go to the ground and waste time. They celebrated the draw like a victory and defended with nine men in the box, something that has become characteristic of them in recent years.
Barcelona must now wait one more year to get a chance to break the curse of the Coliseum. They were close, but it was not meant to be.

One can discuss at length about Barcelona’s inability to finish last night, now they did not dictate the game as they usually do and how certain players were a shadow of themselves.
Credit where it is due, however, some players representing the Blaugrana crest were magical last night and unlucky to be on the losing side.
Pedri, the clear man of the match, was a standout player on the field and was the only player trying to create chances from the midfield.
In 90 minutes, he created one big chance, racked up two key passes and completed 86% of his passes, all while playing as part of the double pivot. Defensively, he had ten defensive actions and anchored the field excellently after Marc Casado’s substitution.
Alejandro Balde was another player who played exceedingly well and kept up his positive spell of growth in 2025. Facing serious racist slurs from the crowd, it was not easy for the Spaniard to keep his cool but he dished out a special performance on the left.
Balde also has two key passes, a big chance created and just shy of 100 touches on the night and was untouchable down the left flank.
Lamine Yamal and Jules Kounde continued their magical combination down the right and looked to create a ruckus in the final third. The likes of Raphinha, Gavi and Lewandowski, however, did not quite get going.
“Winning 6 of the last 24 possible points in La Liga? I’m not worried about that statistic. We are working well. Do we have to improve? Yes, we do. But I’m happy,” Flick said after Barcelona’s defeat last night.
Despite his words, however, one knows well that it is impossible to not flinch looking back at these numbers.
Barcelona have taken six of their last 24 points in La Liga, implying that they have not even a point in each game.
The league may be a marathon with a lot of ground left to cover. However, the title is moving further away with every passing day and it is clear that a lot must change.
Barcelona have indeed proven to be vicious in 2025 and have been exceedingly impressive in must-win/knockout clashes. Their defeat to Getafe may well be a direct result of the opposition’s style of play, but that is not an excuse given Barcelona’s situation.
With Atletico Madrid and Barcelona dropping points, this may turn out to be just what Real Madrid needed to cement themselves as the league leaders in La Liga.
The same team Barcelona beat 5-2 could be seven points clear of them in less than 24 hours. Worrying days are ahead in Barcelona’s league campaign.
