Tottenham have been handed a huge boost in their pursuit of a new centre-back.

That is after Bournemouth confirmed that Marcos Senesi would be leaving the club when his contract expires this summer.

“AFC Bournemouth will always hold a special place for me and I will look back at my time here with fond memories,” Senesi tod the club website.

“For now, there are still two big games left of the season and I’m looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together.”

The Argentine joined the Cherries from Feyenoord back in 2022.

Since then, he has played 126 times for the Dorset outfit, scoring six times.

He had still not agreed fresh terms back in January, which meant that he was free to begin pre-contract negotiations with overseas clubs.

No agreement has been reached with anyone from abroad, and now, with his exit imminent at the end of the campaign, it will have Spurs, as well as a couple of other Premier League clubs, on red alert.

Roberto De Zerbi’s side were reported to hold strong interest in Senesi a few weeks ago, and were believed to be in pole position to land the central defender on a free.

However, they could face competition from Chelsea and Liverpool, both of whom are likely to be on the hunt for new bodies for the hearts of their defences.

Liverpool in particular are light at the back, playing much of this season with just two fit senior centre-backs, Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk.

Giovanni Leoni, the summer signing from Parma, and Joe Gomez have been injured for most of the campaign, forcing Ryan Gravenberch to deputise at times alongside Van Dijk.
