The forward has dropped hints before that he is out of contract this summer - and Dean has seemingly revealed his son's next move
Josh Windass' time at Sheffield Wednesday appears to be over at the end of the 2024-25 season - according to his ex-Premier League striker father Dean.
It's the first time in a number of years that Wednesday have approached the end of a season with nothing to play for. Their supporters' nerves have been heavily jangled over the last few Aprils because of both promotion and relegation battles. But this time it's been different, there's not been much pressure on them to churn out results.
So the attention of the club has been largely turned towards next season and how they can improve on this campaign. Danny Rohl, the Owls' manager, has already made recommendations to the club on which players he feels should be kept on for next season and which should be allowed to leave, as per The Star.
A number of big decisions will be needed on important players, including club captain Barry Bannan, Michael Smith and Callum Patterson, who are all set to become free agents this summer.
Windass, 31, can also be included on that list, albeit he has an optional extension within his current deal, but a huge statement from his father has shed a lot of light on where his future lies.
The Hull City icon has revealed that on Saturday he will be going to watch his son play at Hillsborough for the final time against Portsmouth.
In a video posted to his X account, Windass spoke about the Wednesday forward's future while, oddly enough, playing golf at a club which shares the name of the Owls' home.
"We're playing at Hillsborough, and how ironic that I'll be going on Saturday to watch our Josh; final game at Hillsborough for Josh," said the 56-year-old.
"He's had a great career at Sheffield Wednesday. He scored a lot of goals, obviously the most important one at Wembley. So we'll see what the next chapter in his life is.
"Obviously you've got to enjoy your life. You've got to make tough decisions and that's what you've got to do in life.
"Life's hard too, trust me. Especially when you're getting older, it's not great. But you've just got to keep battling on... So I look forward to watching Josh on Saturday."
Windass appeared to be on the brink of leaving Wednesday last summer when he was also a free agent. He rejected offers from them before eventually putting pen to paper.
He had hinted in an interview with talkSPORT in January that the deal he signed was only a year-long, amid reports that Brazilian side Santos were interested in signing him.
The fact that the 31-year-old came so close to exiting Hillsborough last year should make it no surprise that those same questions over his future were raised again.
Football is a short career. Most players are lucky to get a good 15 years before they eventually have to hang their boots up, and Windass will be aware that he's closer to the end than he is to the start.
Opportunities like playing for Santos, one of the most legendary clubs in all of football, would make anyone in Windass' position consider their future. Realistically, how many more chances are you going to get to do something like that in your career?
The forward first moved to Hillsborough on loan in January 2020. He's spent more time with Wednesday than any other club in his career - sometimes you're just in need of a change of scenery.
