Arsenal are close to signing Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United after both sides reached an “agreement” over an £80m deal for the midfielder.
After Arsenal’s opening bid for the 28-year-old was knocked back, talks between the clubs progressed on Tuesday and Guimaraes is now close to getting his move.
The deal represents a key piece of business of Mikel Arteta ahead of Arsenal’s title defence - while Newcastle will be left to wave goodbye to another key player following the departures of Anthony Gordon and Sandro Tonali this summer.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Vinicius Jr continues, too, although Real Madrid are said to have offered fresh terms to the Brazilian after his return to training this week.
Manchester United want to sign a left-back, meanwhile, with Lewis Hall reportedly now set on a move to Old Trafford, but Newcastle are determined to stop the exodus and insist he is not for sale.
Liverpool want to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain, meanwhile, and the European champions may have already landed his replacement: Maghnes Akliouche is set to join PSG from Monaco.
Cristian Romero is likely to head to Inter Milan this summer after being linked with a Tottenham exit.
That’s because the Argentina centre-back has “chosen” Inter, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport.
Romero could link up with John Stones, who joined the Nerazzurri on a free transfer after leaving Man City.
The newspaper states a five-year deal is on the table and that Spurs will bank €35m (£30m) plus another €5m (£4.3m) in bonuses.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have no plans to sell Cody Gakpo, despite Tottenham expressing their interest in the 27-year-old Netherlands forward.
Gakpo has four years left on his deal and Liverpool would not sanction a move without a direct replacement - although they have been linked with Bradley Barcola this summer, and the PSG star will not come cheap.
Spurs have also been linked with Manchester City forward Savinho, with Roberto De Zerbi keen to improve Tottenham’s attacking options.

Tottenham have distanced themselves with reports linking the club for a move for Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson.
Jackson, 25, has returned from a season-long loan at Bayern Munich and is available for another move this summer.
Spurs have already spent £237m this summer and although they have not ruled out a move for another attacker - with Cody Gakpo and Savinho linked - there will be no move for Jackson.

Meanwhile, Newcastle are determined to keep Lewis Hall this summer, even if Manchester United are interested in a £60m transfer.
Hall, 21, has emerged as Manchester United’s No 1 target for left back but Newcastle do not want to sell another first-team player this summer, with Bruno Guimaraes set to follow Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon out of the club.
That’s according to The Athletic, who report that Newcastle are insisting that Hall is not for sale.

Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor say they have begun transfer discussions with Mohamed Salah.
The Egyptian is available on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool at the end of last season, and the club’s chairman said he hopes that a deal will be finalised later this week.
"Negotiations have been launched to transfer professional footballer Mohamed Salah, who is in a free status, to our club," the club said in a statement on Turkey's public disclosure platform.
Salah left Liverpool this summer after nine years, having scored 257 goals in 442 appearances, where he won the Premier League twice and the Champions League once.
