Tuma Jr: No issue with Andrés Sanchez at Corinthians-Caixa meeting

This week, Corinthians met with Caixa Econômica Federal to discuss the financing contract for the Neo Química Arena. The presence of former president Andrés Sanchez at the meeting sparked a strong reaction among fans, but met no resistance from the president of the Deliberative Council, Romeu Tuma Júnior.

"With all sincerity: I see no problem. If we have to find solutions to serious problems that we have, you have to call, to collaborate in this type of situation, people who have a history of the situation, knowledge of the situation, people who were part of the problem we have. So, in all situations, we are referring to the issue with Caixa", said the councilor to Meu Timão.

"Who was in power when this agreement with Caixa was made? When the contract with Caixa was made, it was Andrés Sanches. He is responsible for all this. So, if you have any condition to negotiate this with Caixa, call the guy who has a history to help, even to try to recover if he created a problem that today is having all this consequence, because the problem with Caixa today is global", he added.

Since last year, the Corinthians fans have been contributing to the reduction of the club's debt through the Donate Arena Corinthians campaign, which has already raised more than R$ 40 million. The initiative came about after negotiations by Gaviões da Fiel with Caixa Econômica Federal. For Romeu Tuma Júnior, it is essential to have "experienced" people in the stadium's debt settlement process.

"We recently had Gaviões sitting with Caixa, participating with the crowdfunding. That's why it helped. We have already raised more than 40 million. So, call the responsible people who were part of this, who have a history, who know the subject, who can help. So, honestly, I see no problem in this sense", he said.

Corinthians is looking for different alternatives to reduce the debt related to the financing of the Arena. One of the strategies is the review of the naming rights contract, signed in 2020, whose value is considered outdated compared to other current agreements in football. According to the latest financial balance released by the club in June of this year, Timão's debt with Caixa Econômica Federal is estimated at approximately R$ 675 million.
