Two million line Madrid streets to celebrate Spain’s second star | OneFootball

Close to two million fans lined Madrid’s streets as Spain’s world champions paraded to Cibeles to mark their second star, the Government Delegation said.

From 16:00, hundreds filled the square with umbrellas to fend off the heat. Madrid has a high risk alert in place until Wednesday.

Festivities started an hour late after the team’s flight home was delayed. Aitana, Lola Índigo, Ana Mena, Arde Bogotá and Viva Suecia performed at Cibeles.

Following audiences at the Zarzuela Palace and the Moncloa, the squad set off from the Moncloa transport hub for an open-top bus route through central streets, passing the Puerta de Alcalá before reaching Montalbán.

King Felipe VI and Queen Letizia, alongside the Princess of Asturias, Leonor, and Infanta Sofía, received the team. RFEF president Rafael Louzán, head coach Luis de la Fuente and captain Rodrigo Hernández, the World Cup’s best player, led the delegation.

At Moncloa Palace, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez hosted a garden event presented by journalist María Relaño and streamer Ibai Llanos, with more than 100 guests from staff and families.

Rodri said the trophy is the most special he has won so far. He added that winning with his country, above all a World Cup, is the greatest feeling, noting his generation grew up watching Casillas and Iniesta lift the cup.
