According to SPORT, FC Barcelona’s international relations with FIFA and UEFA are going through a very tense phase.
The club’s president, Joan Laporta, has irritated his FIFA and UEFA counterparts Gianni Infantino and Aleksander Ceferin, respectively, with his recent comments and actions on several key issues.
At the top levels of world football’s governing bodies, Laporta’s remarks about the European Super League – positioned as an alternative to the Champions League – and the FIFA Club World Cup have caused displeasure.

Ceferin has also taken issue with the plan involving La Liga, Villarreal and Barcelona to move the 2025/26 league match scheduled for the Estadi de la Ceramica to Miami.
“We are not happy, but, as much as we have checked legally, we do not have much room for manoeuvre if the federation agrees and both federations agree too,” Ceferin said earlier this month.
Meanwhile, the Barcelona chief also made some comments about the Club World Cup, in which the Catalans were not involved, which have not gone down too well at FIFA.
Laporta’s public complaints about Inter Miami, Lionel Messi’s team, being granted a ‘wild card’ to take part in the tournament in the US, while Barcelona, who had not qualified either, were left out, created significant discontent within FIFA.
As of today, relations with both international bodies are far from smooth. It is a situation that the Barcelona president will need to address in the short term for the good of the club.
