Valencia have resumed work at Paterna after three days off during the international break, turning attention to Celta Vigo. According to AS, Filip Ugrinic trained separately due to patellar tendon pain and there is no set timeframe for his return.
The Swiss midfielder missed the last match against Sevilla after the problem flared up again. Those same issues sidelined him for the first three months of the season, during which he played only 93 minutes up to one December.
Ugrinic last trained pain free with the group on 20 March. Head coach Carlos Corberán said before the trip to the Sánchez Pizjuán that Ugrinic was not in the squad and did not give a return date, with his comeback dependent on pain levels rather than a fixed schedule.
Corberán has relied on Ugrinic whenever he has been available, and his strong form had reopened the door to Switzerland. Even so, the discomfort prevented him from travelling for the final call-up before the World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
There was better news for José Gayà and Thierry Correia, who trained normally after rejoining parts of last week’s sessions. If there are no issues before Sunday, both could feature at Mestalla against Celta, with the captain working in a protective mask after two blows in the Sevilla game.
