Under-20: Corinthians set to trigger purchase option for on-loan striker

Corinthians continues to make moves in their youth divisions and is expected to exercise the purchase option for forward Luiz Fábio ‘Favela’ from Capivariano. His loan contract with the Alvinegro ends at the end of this March. The information was initially reported by TMC and confirmed by Central do Timão.

According to the report, the club from Parque São Jorge will permanently acquire the 19-year-old athlete by paying R$ 300,000 – as stipulated in the contract with a purchase option – to acquire 50% of his economic rights. Furthermore, according to TMC, the decision to keep the player at Parque São Jorge was made through an alignment between the youth and professional departments, with the possibility of the youngster getting minutes with the first team, coached by Dorival Júnior.

The amount, considered low for purchasing a player born in 2006, ended up influencing the club’s decision. The center-forward will be able to play in Corinthians’ youth divisions up to the 2027 Copinha. After this period, the club will decide whether or not to use the player in the main squad, and may eventually loan him to another team to gain more minutes.

Luiz Fábio was signed by Corinthians at the beginning of 2025, still under the administration of the ousted president Augusto Melo, arriving on loan from Capivariano. Initially, he did not have a place in the U-20 team and was part of the U-18/U-20 B team – a now-defunct category intended for those who did not have many opportunities in the A squad.

From the second half of last year, especially after the arrival of coach William Batista in August, the player began to be used in the U-20 and as a starter. In 18 matches for the category, he has scored three goals – two of them in the group stage of the 2026 Copinha. Playing for Capivariano, he scored one goal in 12 matches. In 2023, he was loaned to the U-17 team of Barra, from Santa Catarina, not scoring any goals in 13 matches.

In the U-20, Luiz Fábio faces competition from Nicolas Araújo (19 years old) and Gui Bom (17 years old) – the latter was one of the top scorers for the U-17 in 2025 and missed this year’s Copinha due to a ligament injury. Kayke Dallaqua (2009) had been playing in the older category, but returned to the U-17 at least at the start of this season.
