Antonio Escudero, vice president of the social area of FC Barcelona, has spoken openly about the ongoing works at the Spotify Camp Nou and the delays that have affected the club.

Escudero highlighted that the original plans had not been met and pointed to the technicians as responsible for the discrepancies.

“Promises have been made that did not fit with reality and the programmes of the works,” Escudero said when asked about the progress at the stadium, as quoted by SPORT.

Unreal expectations

He clarified that while there was an eagerness to return to the Camp Nou, not everyone involved in planning had realistic expectations.

Escudero explained further, “The first ones who wanted to return were those from the board.

“I was in favour of staying in Montjuïc, but there were some people involved, not on the board but technicians who calculate these things, who were wrong.

“The only one who was right, and who got it right, was me.”

Ensuring safety and approvals before return

The Barcelona director stressed that he had warned from the start about the challenges.

“From the outset, I said that what we were saying about going to Camp Nou was impossible,” the board member added.

It is to be noted that Barça will continue to play home matches at the Olympic Stadium, starting with Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League fixture against PSG.

The next scheduled home game is set for the weekend of October 18-19 against Girona.

Barcelona hope to secure the first occupancy permit before that date, addressing issues highlighted by the City Council.

The club remains focused on resolving these matters to obtain the final approval, ensuring that fans can safely return to the Spotify Camp Nou soon.
